Inquiry is a unique form of dialogue in Mindfulness training. It is an exploratory dialogue that follows the experience of the other and the development of insight within that experience. The basis of this workshop is the practice of Inquiry. In addition to exploring some theory, the embodiment of Mindfulness in the dialogue will receive our attention. This is an interactive workshop with plenty of practice.

  • Purpose of the workshop

    This workshop focuses on refining meditative awareness in interactions with participants, emphasizing the importance of one's own mindfulness experience and practice ("walk the talk"). We will learn how to cultivate genuine interest in the experiences of others without losing ourselves, and explore when to act and when to stop. The 8 factors of mindfulness form the basis, as we deepen our inquiry skills and practice with the three levels at which inquiry takes place.

  • Who is this workshop for?

    This Inquiry workshop is intended for Mindfulness trainers who train children, adolescents, parents and/or teachers in the MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction training) or the Method Eline Snel. In addition, the training is open to anyone interested in communicating in a more mindful way. The trainee will be able to ask the right questions in contact with others from an understanding and compassionate attitude, allowing the other person to gain self-insight.

Every human being longs to be truly heard.
We all want to be understood, felt and seen.
Really listening is often much more important than suggesting solutions
or giving well-intentioned advice.

Learning Outcomes Inquiry Workshop

The student can provide the other person with insight into his or her inner world (feelings - thoughts - physical signals) and the influence of the outside world on it (work pressure, stressful situations, lack of compassion).

The student can provide the other person with insight into automatic thoughts, making transformation possible.

The student can notice if:

  • the other person feels heard, seen and understood
  • the other person recognizes the fluctuations in mood and mental state in themselves
  • participants understand the material and know how to apply it in daily life
  • the other person experiences obstacles and investigate what the other person needs to remove this obstacle

After participating in an Inquiry course, the student will be able to:

  • ask questions that consistently bring the other person back to the present experience of the exercise, reflection, or meditation;
  • independently guide the exchange of experiences during a mindfulness training;
  • recognize in themselves the tendency to ask too many questions, ask therapeutic questions, or not ask enough questions;
  • encourage participants in practicing meditation, reflection exercises, keeping (stress) diaries, and supporting self-compassion, without exerting pressure;
  • recognize when participants have understood and felt the lesson material, i.e., both on a cognitive and experiential level;
  • The student can trust in the self-reliance of the participants and knows the proven benefits of participating in a mindfulness training through scientific qualitative and quantitative research.
